Project Engineer
Position Summary
The Project Engineer at Dream Team Finishes supports the front end of every project by performing accurate takeoffs, assembling job documentation, and preparing complete job jackets for the Project Manager and field leadership. This role ensures every project begins with clear data, proper quantities, defined scopes, and all supporting information needed for smooth production.
This is a precision role. A wrong quantity, a missed scope line, or an incomplete job jacket costs the company real money — in materials, labor, and margin. The Project Engineer is the person who makes sure that never happens. This position is critical to Dream Team's strategic initiative to strengthen jobsite accountability, quality assurance, and consistent execution.

Key Responsibilities
Perform detailed digital takeoffs using STACK or similar software — quantify paint, drywall, and wallcovering materials accurately
Identify pattern repeats, substrate conditions, corner counts, wall types, and finish levels for every project
Review plans, specifications, addenda, and finish schedules thoroughly before building scope summaries
Flag scope gaps, inconsistencies, or value-engineering opportunities before handoff to the PM
Assemble complete job jackets including takeoff reports, material lists, labor hour budgets, margin master workbooks, and safety documentation
Organize all job jackets in Google Drive using standardized templates — zero missing information at handoff
Build and roll out standardized job costing system using QuickBooks and field reports; track estimated vs. actual costs
Create repeatable hotel project templates to streamline startup and reduce PM onboarding time on new projects
Track historical production data to continuously refine future estimate accuracy
Coordinate with PM, field teams, and GC contacts to clarify scope and resolve RFIs before production begins
Attend project handoff meetings to ensure smooth transition from pre-construction to field operations
Train new hire / intern to autonomously produce accurate takeoffs and quote worksheets by Q2

Qualifications
Proficiency with digital takeoff tools — STACK strongly preferred; BlueBeam or PlanSwift acceptable
Strong understanding of commercial paint, drywall, and wallcovering scopes across multiple finish levels
Proficient with Google Workspace (Drive, Sheets, Docs, Gmail, Calendar) and QuickBooks
Ability to read and accurately interpret architectural plans, finish schedules, and spec books
High attention to detail — zero missing information when a project is handed off is the standard, not the goal
Clear, concise communicator who gives numbers and dates — not approximations
Self-sufficient and resourceful — can find information with minimal assistance from the PM
Experience in commercial construction or specialty finishes estimating preferred
